This is my second D'Antonio short story (after The Good Priest) and I hope to see others coming. Compelling narrative that reflects adolescent memories common to us all. Wonderfully and subtly written with a fast moving pace and original imagery.A week at the beach in New Jersey in the 60s with an Italian family at a restaurant celebrating a birthday that dissolves into a father's ego and a restaurant manager that is "unmotivated by the American Dream". An adolescent coming of age in the bikini described in the title and young boys from Prep school: "The girl did not grasp that the beach in Ocean City in the summer of 1973 and that beaches in her life forever after would be strewn with the most vexatious of heat-seeking missiles: the penis."
Worth reading and keeping.
