An in-depth guide to planning your destination wedding in Mexico, written by a destination bride and expatriot herself. While living in Mexico, Wali got engaged and began planning her destination wedding in Manzanillo, Mexico.
Traditional wedding planning guides leave a lot of unanswered questions for a destination bride. The budgets aren't applicable, nor is the timing. Whole areas of planning, like travel and legalizing the marriage, aren't considered in a regular wedding planning guide.
If you are looking at getting married in Mexico, this guide is for you.
It starts with detailed planning information - timelines, budgets from real brides, and help with things that "traditional" brides don't have to worry about - like easing your less adventurous relatives into the idea of a destination wedding in Mexico.
You will learn
- Details only the locals know, like how to save on flowers and which wedding favors are truly authentic to Mexico
- How to introduce your family and friends to a destination wedding without damaging relationships
- How to prepare your guests for travel to Mexico
- What to bring and what to buy locally
- Which vendors to get locally and who you might consider bringing with you
- Sample planning timelines and budgets
- Top destination wedding cities in Mexico and what kind of weddings they are good for
- How to maximize your relationships with vendors to stay stress-free on the big day
- Tips on successfully planning a wedding from afar
- How to make your marriage legal in your home country
- And so much more!
Whether your perfect day is on the beach or in a colonial cathedral, Destination Wedding Planning Mexico arms you with the knowledge, confidence, and savvy to execute a flawless wedding. The wedding of your dreams is within reach. Let's get started planning now!

I have to say, I had NO idea what went into [successfully] getting married in Mexico(you don't know what you don't know). Successfully is the key word here, because, as I'm sure you all know, there are no "Weddings R Us" stores in Mexico. It's not even possible to solely depend on a resort or hotel to handle all the details. It sounds a bit daunting, but that's why I loved this book. The author lays it out for you, she covers all bases, from how to really utilize your own wedding web page, to making sure you pay extra for the insurance when you rent a car (did you know that getting into an accident is technically considered a crime in Mexico? If the officials can't figure out whose fault it is, they can take you to jail while they DO figure it out?! Having rental car insurance protects you from that happening. GOOD TO KNOW!)When I first started thinking about getting married in Mexico, I did buy a "destination wedding" guide at my local bookstore, and while it gave me a lot of general info about the subject, I certainly didn't feel comfortable or convinced that we could really pull it off. Now I know we can! In the Amazon description, it mentions that the author not only got married in Mexico, but she lived there as well, so I felt like if anyone knew the real nitty gritty, she would.
In the very beginning of the book she gives you this very detailed timeline of when to do what, from "10-12 months out" to "on the ground, a few days out". I needed that, because I can get VERY overwhelmed with big projects like this, but when it's broken down, it seems so much easier. I also liked her suggestion to try to set some time aside and have actual alone time with your fiancé to just slow down and enjoy each other, even if it's just a quiet lunch. I hope I never have to use her chapter on "Planning for Every Scenario" which discusses the unexpected snafu's and what to do, but I'm glad it's there. I won't feel so freaked out if any of those things do happen. She also gives 3 different sample budgets, 2 of them being the real budgets of brides recently married in Mexico (maybe her's?). That was very helpful in terms of seeing actual costs, vs the (unrealistic) guestimations my fiancé & I had come up with.
I'm excited! I'll be sure to update my review around September of next year:)

Destination Wedding Planning Mexico eBook Ashley Wali Reviews
This book was incredibly easy to read! It was like listening to my best friend give me first-hand, honest advice. If you're at all like me, you start planning your vision for the big day and get carried away without thinking about practicalities. The author does a fabulous job at balancing the creative and imaginative aspects of destination wedding planning with the nitty-gritty details that you need to think about to pull off a fabulous event. I found myself thinking, "I never thought of that!" frequently throughout the book. If you're planning a destination wedding and have no idea what you're doing, I'd recommend this book. If you are well-traveled and think you know what you're doing, I'd recommend this book! Either way, you'll benefit from the inside information the author has to offer!

Yes, I am currently using this for my daughters wedding and it has given me tips i did not know about. Although made for Mexico, this book can be used for any destination wedding, to help out.
This is an incredible guide for anyone planning a destination wedding in Mexico, a destination wedding, or any wedding at all. It covers all the questions you have and provides all the answers, so that you and your guests can enjoy the special day, worry-free. Actually, this guide covers questions you didn't even know to ask! You can tell that the author has been through the experience!
The book is organized in chronological order, providing you easy to use timelines for planning the wedding of your dreams. Throughout the guide are links to external partners and resources. This book is chock-full of information! Topics range from choosing local party favors as a special touch to navigating the legal landscape of a Mexican wedding to what to pack and how to get it there. This is not a one-dimensional guide to a wedding in Mexico - it covers beaches, mountains and everything in between.
The author always keeps your guests in mind, reminding you how to make the event comfortable and enjoyable for family and friends, especially if the cultural differences may be challenging for some. The book has an accessible tone, and covers everything from high-level topics to detailed lists. It's a fun read! Until the author releases the next destination, I would recommend using the topics in this book and customizing it to whichever destination for which you are planning your wedding, whether another exotic locale or your own backyard. I know this book will be an indispensable part of planning my special day!
