A Rush of Wings was certainly better than the modern vampire novels I've read in the last two years. Adrian Phoenix did quite a few things that peaked my interest and made great use of the setting. I hated the jumping between points of view. Often it was confusing and almost always repetitive (as in a scene shown from one POV, then immediately after, we're given the same scene from another point...but with no new or useful information). That and some other things lead to me not caring about any one character enough to follow into the next book. My favorite character was probably Simone, and she's supporting cast. I never saw any real growth or reason to like Heather, unfortunately. That said, it was an enjoyable read and definitely better than the others I've read.

I really enjoyed the last 45% of this book. So I am glad I pushed through and didn't shelve this one. It took me four tries after putting it down and deciding I had better things to do. Not what you want to hear about a book. But MAN! When things finally start, it's worth the slow start.

One of the reasons it was hard for me to get into this story was the constant sift of POV without warning. It needed a few spaces between paragraphs at least. I found it frustrating and confusing. I had heard this author compared to J.R. Ward and was drawn in by the comparison. But the only similarities I found were the use of initials instead of names for the bad guys.

On the plus side of things, once I understood the POV issues and got use to the writing style I actually LIKED the story. Fallen angels, True Bloods and crazy psycho killers, what's not to like. Hidden pasts and lies told. Such is a good drama with a bloody edge.

So to sum this up, I will be reading the next book in this series. The author left us in a "sort of" cliff hanger. And I find myself wanting to know what will happen next. There was some back story from Heather's character that I would really like to see flushed out. So, all in all not a bad read, just a climb to get to the good stuff.

Oh and can I just say... What is up with cover choices? Never once in the story did Heather dress or even hint at wearing what is on the cover. Not that I hate it. I just think it is a bit of a misrepresentation of her character.
A sensational dark urban fantasy/paranormal romance. This is the second time I read this book and I love it just as much as the first.

Heather is an FBI agent on the trail of a cross-country serial killer. The recent kill points her in the direction of Dante, a mysterious and sexy man, who she believes the killer is trying to communicate with. As bodies pile up, Heather finds herself falling deeper into Dante's mysterious world and deeper for Dante himself. But Dante has secrets of his own and a past that threatens to destroy everything. As the killer closes in on Dante, Heather has to decide if she's willing to put her life and heart on the line while Dante struggles with his haunted past that threatens to tear him apart and bring him one step closer to the killer.

The characters were wonderfully written and developed. Each of the characters were unique. Dante was totally swoon worthy and my favorite book boyfriend. Heather was a bad-ass independent woman whose not afraid to go after what she wants. The secondary characters were fantastic and I especially loved Lucien.
The story was fast-paced and easily kept me reading into the wee hours of the night. I loved the uniqueness and originality of the story. It wasn't just a typical vampire story it was so much more.
If you enjoy any paranormal romance or dark fantasy I highly recommend giving this book a try.
I struggled between 2-3 stars but settled on 2, because evn now, with almost all the book read, I'm just not interested in finishing. The main problem is I don't care about the characters. They seem very flat, and a lot of the same descriptions or phrases are used over and over as if to cement the character in the reader's mind. However, the characters don't grow.

Then all of the sudden, our heroine decides she just has to have sex with this churlish kid, and frankly, it kind of made my stomach turn. I liked her even less afterwards. You know when the main characters could die and you wouldn't really care that something isn't right. I like Lucien and Von a whole lot more than the "gorgeous" Dante who kissed anybody and everybody between migraines. ????
