This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.

The teeth of the tiger Alexander Teixeira de Mattos Maurice Leblanc Books

Lupin is back, once again as Don Luis Perenna, but the dynamics of the series have clearly been established in the last three books. The gentleman thief is now more of a detective or problem solver and he always goes by the name Don Luis while occasional hints are dropped that he is in actuality Arsene Lupin. Later in the story it’s established quite clearly that they are one and the same. Don Luis is brought in to find the possible heirs to a fortune and then solve a murder and prevent several more and he’s surprisingly inept given his near omnipotence in previous books.

When Dos Luis inevitably figures out the identity of the murderer it’s actually a clever reveal. The problem is it’s ruined by the murderer’s world record stupidity. Before the murders he set in motion a mechanism to point the finger at two innocents whom he despised. It’s all a meticulously laid up plan but THEN he pens a long letter detailing his crime and is careful to even sign his came to the confession. He even writes that the only thing that could stop him is finding the latter SO WHY THE HELL WOULD HE WRITE IT! He writes that it would time some kind of genius to figure out his plan and find his letter, “It is for this man that I write, well knowing that he cannot exist” So why does Maurice Leblanc have him write this letter? Because in these old time stories a captured criminal is always quick to confess every detail of his crime however in this case the criminal could not do that so instead Leblanc has him create an inexplicable confession intended for no one. It really is some gold medal lazy writing.

This is one Lupin book that takes a lot of twists and turns. There are at least three are four characters that seem to be the obvious villains. In fact, the culprit I mentioned in the previous paragraph turns out to be just another pawn. It’s not until way late in the book that the true mastermind is revealed and I found it to be one of the better villains in the Lupin series. The book ends in a way where Maurice Leblanc is clearly bringing a close to his character. Arsene Lupin is finally dead and Luis Perenna retires and lives out the rest of his days. However, there are 14 more novels in the Lupin series so I can only assume that the other novels are out of chronological order.

This is, at present, the last Lupin book available free on kindle. I’ve now reviewed the first 10 and I’ll take a break and hope that either the rest are offered free on Kindle or *gasp* pay for them. Actually, a lot of them don’t appear to be available AT ALL on Kindle. I think the plot here is a bit overly convoluted but there are some neat ideas and this is one that could be made into an interesting television show or movie if the plot was a bit streamlined. Not my favorite Lupin book but definitely not my least.

The teeth of the tiger Alexander Teixeira de Mattos Maurice Leblanc Books Reviews

this is one of Leblanc's best together with The hollow needle and L`éclat du obus. It goes on and on surprising the reader.
Poorly written, too many last minute coincidences, contrived, needlessly long and complicated, easy to lose track of characters. would not recommend this book.
a fine "who-done it?" With an interesting plot and good detail. a worthwhile read.
There are many 'twist & turn' in the story. You cannot guess who is the real criminal until the very end.
This is the first book I have read about Arsene Lupin, his escapades and adventures are fast moving and exciting with so many twists and turns that it will keep you on edge of your seat as he continues to solve the mysteries while just staying out of reach of the law and the lawbreakers, it is sometimes funny but always thrilling,so order and enjoy.
Arsene Lupin (as Don Luis Perenna) is out to solve a series of murders -- and prevent another -- in "The Teeth of the Tiger". This seems to be the conclusion of Lupin's adventures, and it's a clever tale, if a bit dark -- darker than is my preference for Lupin stories, but well-told, nonetheless. If you enjoy Lupin tales, or Raffles, or Sherlock Holmes, or The Saint, I wager you'll enjoy "The Teeth of the Tiger".
